It is February and the message of love swirls around every corner.  Valentine’s Day is the highlight of the month if you find yourself in the midst of a  healthy relationship, and if your ears are tuned to the voice of the world, which sometimes speaks truth, but often deceives even the highest intellect.

What if your relationships are broken? What if the once significant other has passed on? What if friends have deserted you, and family is too busy to notice the emptiness of your world? What if betrayal marks your soul and darkness looms overhead without a hint of lifting? What if? The world answers, “Just give up. It’s not worth the pain. You deserve more.  Who needs family and friends anyway?” and many more dressed up lies that lead into darker days.

But God answers, “Love me!” “Don’t just love me, but love me with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 – ESV)

God answers, “Seek me!” “And when you seek me with your whole heart, you will find me.”  (Psalms 66:5 – ESV)

God answers, “Know me!” “Be still, and see that I am exalted in all of the earth.” (Psalms 46:10 – ESV)

God answers, “Obey me!” “ I will be your God and you will be counted among my people.”  (Jeremiah 7:23 – ESV)

The love month, according to the world, revolves around self. The world encourages us to be self-centered, to self-indulge, to build self-esteem, to monitor our self-image. “Self” is elevated at every turn, lived out on social media venues, written through pages of blogs, and heard through the entertainment that saturates our hearts on a daily basis. Perhaps at some level, we have replaced God’s truth for a lie and now we live it, looking for self-fulfilment.

God graciously leads us to higher ground as He directs the path of love to begin with Him. The greatest commandment is to love God first. The focus of all our days is commanded to be on God. Our love for God is paramount and sets the stage for how we engage in every relationship

The beauty of God’s truth about love changes everything. We rise in the morning loving and being loved without an ounce of fear. We walk through our days whole, even in the midst of brokenness, and we are a strong reminder to the world that God is great!

I hope your February is full as you love God first and enjoy this most treasured relationship. God has promised His love to a thousand generations. We are those generations!

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.

Deuteronomy 7:9
