I’ve never been THAT girl! You know, the one who is a “perfect ten” sporting the flawless, silky, bronzed skin with perfect hair, eyes, lips and a tight body. Nope! I’m the tall girl with “big bones” and an “athletic frame.” I’m the girl who used to arm wrestle boys in elementary school and win!

And now, I’m the woman with half gray, half red hair who gets decked out in jeans, steel-toe construction boots and a hard hat, strolling through dirt filled construction sites laden with all those foul-mouthed boys I used to arm wrestle.

Masculinity has ruled my identity more than femininity and the question arises, “Where is that beautiful, gentle, kind, feminine woman God created?” The answer whispers “She’s there; she’s always been there, she’s just buried under protective layers of doubt, hurt, insecurity and pain.”

For me, relating to men and “being one of the guys” meant that I could never be hurt by one. If I hid the feminine woman God created me to be, I could escape the agonizing thought of having to be submissive, vulnerable, and humble. An independent, boot-toting construction gal surely could never be THAT girl.

But the Lord calls all of us to come to Him with humility, submissiveness, and vulnerability. My identity is in Him, not what I look like or what I do for a living. I was wonderfully made in His image and for His purposes, as a strong, feminine woman!

He has freed me from the pain and lifted my burdens, breaking the chains of doubt and insecurity.

The more these truths get tattooed on my heart and He keeps peeling back the layers of lies, I’m slowly starting to realize, I AM that girl; I’m God’s girl and He thinks I’m drop dead gorgeous!

Our beauty comes from a loving God who calls us His masterpiece!

When God works on us from the inside and transforms our hearts, it’s His beauty alone that makes us attractive on the outside.

Embrace your beauty! God is in love with you!

You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you. Song of Songs 4:7

Discover the masterpiece God created you to be at our upcoming “Women’s Living Letters Bible Study, A Study of Ephesians.” It runs for seven weeks at our Discovery Church Central Campus location. More details here:
