In September 2017, I had the amazing privilege to travel to Israel. There are so many fascinating experiences I could share. I’ll share one of my favorites, my trip to The Garden Tomb.
The Garden Tomb is thought by some Christians to be the burial and resurrection of Jesus. It is an amazing place where people go to meditate, pray, worship, and celebrate the Lord Jesus Christ.
Entering the garden my olfactory sense was met with incredible fragrances. I was blown away with the beauty of the trees and the flowers. What I heard was what I imagine heaven will sound like. There were groups of people meeting in pergolas singing familiar hymns in languages I could not recognize. While walking and taking in all of the beauty, there was another group, just a few feet away, singing praises to a familiar song in an unfamiliar tongue. Along the path, there were believers sharing in communion and others praying. The Spirit of the Lord was present. I could feel Him like a balm, like a covering. This visitation was a piece of heaven on earth.
The tomb sat adjacent to an age-old wine press and cistern. The door sign read, “He is not here, for He is risen”! The stone, in fact was rolled away!
Mark 16:5-7 came alive before my eyes: “As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.”
“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples…’”
My Lord! I get so excited when I think about Jesus getting up from the grave.
What a glorious day!
Here’s the point that thrills my heart; He loves you and I so much that He CHOSE to save us. What a great deal. He gives us the choice to choose Him in return. We don’t have to jump through any fiery hoops to receive this wonderful gift of salvation.
Here’s a simple prayer to accept the invitation for eternal life.
Admit your sin.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 (NIV)
Believe that He died and paid for all sins at the cross.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NIV)
Confess Jesus as Lord of your life.
”If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 (NIV)
