“A man’s pursuit of a woman has to be the same as God’s pursuit of her.”   -Joshua Eze

As I scan over the black book of my past relationships, I notice they all have one thing in common; I was the pursuer. I was never the girl in middle school or high school the boys pursued, nor was I ever the woman men pursued as I grew older. My mom used to tell me because I was so fiercely independent, tall and beautiful that the boys and men were intimidated by me. So, I decided I would ease the burden on these men and pursue them. I became their confidence, their strength and their self-esteem. They didn’t really have to do much of anything other than accept the love and attention I was giving them.

I was searching for a romance that would fill my soul. I was searching for attention and love to make me feel wanted and special, yet my pursuits failed me every single time.

I wasn’t walking with the Lord at the time and there came a turning point when the Lord allowed me to be in a season of loneliness in order to draw me to Him and teach me my worth in Him.

As I began navigating through my feelings, I discovered my heart was longing to know Jesus. I was thirsty for Him and His love, not for a man’s imperfect love.

I realized Jesus was pursuing me with love, protection, respect, compassion, honesty and purity. His perfect pursuit of me awakened my eyes to what a man’s pursuit of a woman should look like.

Is he pursuing me to fill his own desires? Or is he pursuing me to fill God’s desires?

Relationships were never meant to fulfill selfish needs and voids. God made us to be in relationship with one another to glorify His name and show the world what God’s love looks like.

I’ve learned that I don’t have to pursue men to feel loved and accepted, because Jesus has an unlimited supply of love He is constantly pouring into me.

All I have to do is rest in the arms of my Savior and let Him bring me a man of God, if that is His will.

A man of God will pursue me the same way Jesus does; with a confident heart of selfless purity and love.

If you’ve never known what it’s like to be pursued by a Godly man, I encourage you to watch “A Woman’s Worth – A Message for Singles” by Joshua Eze. I pray it will inspire you!
